FAQ - Everything you need to know!

This is everything you need to know about our services, how to book, payment, what to expect, and more. If there's anything not covered here, please reach out via Email and we'll be glad to answer your questions!

How do I book?

We are excited to work on your next tattoo! The first step is to gather the information needed for your new tattoo, whether that is a custom piece, flash art, or one of your artist's "wanna-do" pieces. We'll break down the differences between them and how to book each one below.

NOTE: You are welcome to submit a form or send us an email to get the ball rolling, however for all custom requests we strongly prefer email so that you can immediately attach photos and images! Please read the rest of this FAQ page to make sure you're covering all your bases or your request may be denied.

After we decide on your new tattoo concept a deposit will be required to hold your appointment and/or begin work on your design. The deposit will be applied to the total of your project and is non-refundable, period. Please read the deposit section of this FAQ. Deposits are collected via Zelle and you will require cash on the day of your appointment for the remaining balance.

Once a deposit is recorded either your artist or their assistant will reach out to you with a link to book your appointment online! You can also use this link to reschedule or cancel your appointment (with some limitations) at your leisure.

If you have any questions that are not answered on this page, please email us or send us a DM! Please note that we cannot book over DM.

What are the differences between a flash tattoo, a wanna-do, and a custom piece?

There are three types of standard projects in the tattoo industry: flash tattoos and custom tattoos. We'll break it down here:

FLASH TATTOOS

A flash tattoo piece is a pre-designed tattoo that is ready to be claimed by a client anytime. They can vary in complexity and size, from small, simple designs to more intricate pieces. In the past these were typically displayed on sheets or books in a tattoo studio, although most artists now also display them online. These designs are intended to be chosen by clients as-is, without significant modifications. Any modifications will be considered a custom piece. All of Seraphim's flash art is repeatable unless specifically stated otherwise.

Advantages of Flash Tattoos are:

  1. Ready to Go: They are created in advance by the artist, showcasing their preferred style and creativity. They help the artist attract clients who appreciate their specific artistic vision and are also a fantastic way for clients to enjoy the work of an artist before/instead of investing in a larger, more complex piece!

  2. Cost: While cost will depend on the size / complexity of the piece, in general flash designs can be a more affordable option for getting a tattoo, as they save significant time on the custom design process.

  3. Living Memories: Flash designs often include the style and soul of the artist's home region. This is evident in the PNW themes frequently displayed in Seraphim's art! Whether you are traveling, moving away, or a resident many clients enjoy having their time in the PNW celebrated with living art in their tattoos.

  4. First-Timers: These designs are excellent for first time clients who are new to the tattoo process! They are (generally) much shorter appointments that require less planning, budgeting and commitment than custom pieces. Flash appointments are also an excellent way to begin a relationship and build comfortability with a new tattoo artist.

You can find most of Seraphim's flash art on Instagram pinned to her profile and/or posted in various highlight categories!

Monthly Flash Art

Each month (in addition to the regular flash collections), Seraphim offers an exclusive collection of flash art available only for that month. Once your appointment and deposit are confirmed, you'll receive a link to book your session within the next 60 days. Please note, submissions for each monthly collection are only accepted during that specific month. After the month ends, the collection will be removed from our gallery.

CUSTOM PIECES

Custom tattoo pieces are unique designs created exclusively for you and will not be repeated for other clients. They can range from very small dainty tattoos all the way to extensive full-body pieces, such as sleeves or leg-length designs. They are tailored to fit and honor your body, first - no matter your shade, shape and size. Tattoos are for everyone!

Designing these pieces requires significant time and effort from the artist, often taking many days and hours to perfect before the appointment. For large projects, especially garden and botanical themes requiring multiple sessions, the initial session involves detailed planning, drawing, stenciling, and ensuring the design fits harmoniously on your body before we begin tattooing.

Clients will see their full (or often partial designs) on the day of the appointment, with enough time allocated to make reasonable changes as needed. We fully expect (and welcome!) clients to have input on their piece which is why we book this extra time in the appointment. Please note we do not reveal designs before your appointment time - thank you for understanding!

Currently, Seraphim is accepting custom projects for arms (full or partial), legs (full or partial), shoulders, buttocks / lower hips, and sometimes the lower back. We do not tattoo the stomach, nether regions, spine, ears, face, neck, or ribs at this time.

For custom pieces, we strongly prefer communication via email. You can email us at Petite.Ink.PNW@gmail.com - Please include the following details:

  • Name

  • Email

  • Phone number

  • Height (in feet and inches)

  • Tattoo placement(s)

  • Photos of the body placement with markings indicating where you want the tattoo to flow/be placed. Many clients use markers or draw on screenshots from their phones. Videos are also helpful! Propping up your phone and using the timer function is helpful if you're taking photos solo.

  • Reference photos that are stylistically similar to one another - sending multiple reference photos that are wildly different from one another confuses your artist and does not specify your vision.

  • Availability - Kindly note that the studio is only open on weekdays. Occasionally a weekend appointment will be announced in Seraphim's Last Minute Booking channel on Instagram.

Due to the laborious and time consuming nature of custom tattoos, please be aware that we can only fit a certain number of custom pieces in our schedule. If we are unable to accept your submission there is a chance we may be able to accept the project later on. Wanna-Do's and custom requests that most closely resemble the artist's style will be prioritized.

After we decide on a general concept, a deposit will be required to hold your appointment and/or begin work on your design. If you have any questions that are not answered on this page, please email us or send us a DM! Please note that we cannot book over DM.

WANNA-DO'S

Wanna-do tattoos are special projects that the artist is excited to create and prioritize in their booking schedule. These designs are often chosen to be showcased as portfolio pieces and are available for clients who share the artist's enthusiasm for the concept.

Wanna-do designs and suggested body placements are posted on the artist's Instagram profile, both in the "Wanna-Do" highlight and in the gallery posts. They usually offer the best benefits of both flash and custom pieces. Like flash tattoos, they are pre-designed, making the selection process quick and easy. However, similar to custom pieces, they often feature intricate, unique designs tailored to fit specific body areas, ensuring that you still achieve a personalized and harmonious fit.

By choosing a wanna-do tattoo, you get a distinctive piece of art that the artist is passionate about, with the added benefit of expedited booking and a standout addition to your tattoo collection.

For wanna-do pieces, we strongly prefer communication via email
. You can email us at Petite.Ink.PNW@gmail.com - Please include the following details:

  • Email

  • Phone number

  • Height (in feet and inches)

  • Tattoo placement(s) - If more than one option is given for that specific piece

  • Screenshot of the specific available piece you are wanting.

  • Availability - Kindly note that the studio is only open on weekdays. Occasionally a weekend appointment will be announced in Seraphim's Last Minute Booking channel on Instagram.

When will I get a response?

The short answer: Due to the high volume of forms received, responses are not guaranteed. Sometimes we can get back to you right away, other times it may take weeks. We operate on a rolling 2-3 month schedule for bookings. When there is availability open we will promptly answer forms in the order they are received. Some proposals may take a little longer than others. If your artist is out of the studio on hiatus they (or their assistant) will make every effort catch up on proposals when they return. Updates on their schedule will be posted to Instagram.

There is also also a channel on the studio's IG page for the purpose of announcing last minute slots, new pieces and upcoming availabilities. We recommend joining this channel to stay in the loop on that if you desire an appointment on short notice.

We are all adults - please be respectful and considerate in your messages! We are excited to make your tattoo experience a great one, however if you are rude or difficult to communicate with, you may not receive a response. We want everyone of all shapes, sizes, and ways of life to feel welcome here, so please return kindness with kindness. Sometimes it just isn't a match between the artist and the client - and that's okay! While we hope to always create good tattoo experiences, it is our right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

What are your rates?

Seraphim will charge by the piece in most cases (other guest artists may vary in their pricing, please contact them directly for info). The price depends on the design, placement and size. We always aim to stick to your quote and never surprise you. When we respond to your proposal we will give you a quote for the tattoo cost. The minimum appointment fee is $250. That being said, art takes the time it takes; sometimes clients make changes on the fly and your artist is a human, not a machine - if a custom piece requires more sessions than initially expected we will communicate this to you right away.

We will send you home with some free high quality aftercare (enough for one tattoo) and detailed instructions so that you'll feel confident about caring for your new art!

NOTE: It's okay to tap out of our session before its scheduled end if you are in untenable pain, anxious, etc. - your comfort and safety come first. Just please be aware that the price quoted for your session will still need to be paid in full to respect your artist's time and supply costs. Any follow up sessions to finish your tattoo will be shifted to an hourly rate.

Touch-ups may be necessary for many tattoos! See Touch-Up policy below.

Will I need a Touch-Up?

In short, probably. We all heal differently and some areas of the body have a much higher cell turnover than others, resulting in fading. Some of the most poplar areas to get tattoos are also the places most likely to fade out. On fingers, hands, wrists, ankles, elbows and knees the skin stretches so much that tattoo ink will eventually fade over time. Hip tattoos may look distorted if tight clothing - like your jeans - rubs the same spot over and over again. If your arms and legs are exposed to a lot of sun, you run the risk of your tattoo fading / warping due to sun damage. Touch-Ups are also subjected to the same fading your original tattoo experienced, but with proper care you can keep the ink looking fresh for much longer. Your artist will go over short and long term aftercare in detail.

TATTOO TOUCH UP POLICY: Not everyone will need a touch up and many clients will not find them necessary. Touch ups from your last session will incur at a small charge (typically $50 - $75) to cover the bare minimum of your artist's supplies and time. There is generally no charge for most touch ups for previous tattoos we've worked on together if you are adding it on to another new tattoo appointment. Just be sure to let your artist know so that they can add in the time! During your appointment we can also schedule your touchup (if desired) so that you don't need to stress about it. There are no guarantees to if or how your new tattoo will fade and every tattoo you have will heal differently from one another. Different immune systems, cell turn over rates, hormone fluctuations, auto-immune conditions, medications, aftercare habits, sun exposure, and varying lifestyles all affect how your body responds to ink. Your skin may respond differently from one appointment to another and various parts of the body all have different skin types. No two tattoos will heal the same!

NOTE: We no longer offer hand, palm or finger tattoos. Thank you for understanding.

Do you do Cover -Ups?

At this time, we rarely offer cover ups. If you choose a design significantly larger than the tattoo you are trying to cover, we may be able to use shading or dark color to hide the existing tattoo beneath the new one. Please reach out to us, first! We'll always be honest if the cover-up needed is not within our abilities.

OTHER ARTISTS' WORK (design): We will not tattoo another artist's illustration / design without permission. However, we strongly support bodily autonomy. Once a tattoo is already on your skin we believe that your body is yours alone to do whatever you wish! (See below)

OTHER ARTISTS' WORK (tattoo):
We understand that there may be many reasons why you cannot return to the original artist of an existing tattoo. We will touch up faded work from existing pieces and/or add to an existing design to create a new custom piece (this is different from a cover-up) if your artist feels that it is within their abilities to do so.

NOTE: There are no guarantees when working with/on pre-existing tattoos. Differences in ink and technique can change how the tattoo heals and how the finished result will look. We may not post a touch-up of a pre-existing tattoo to our portfolio without crediting the original artist.

How do I pay?

Deposits are required for all appointments.

Once we agree on a general idea and quote, deposits are required for all appointments in order to reserve your place. Once a deposit is received we can begin work on your design (if applicable - see below for more info on custom work). All deposits must be paid via ZELLE and the remainder of your appointment is cash.

NOTE: Deposits are not refundable! Please see below.

Is the deposit refundable?

Deposits are always required and non-refundable.

Deposits are never refundable, however they can be rolled over to a rescheduled appointment as long as you reschedule a week in advance. You may only reschedule your appointment once - multiple reschedules will require that you pay a new deposit and your original deposit will be forfeit.

Exception: The one and only exception is in the event that your artist experiences an illness, injury, or other life event where they need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. These are thankfully very rare, but in the event of extenuating circumstances your artist will offer either a reschedule or deposit return (not both).

NOTE: If you are an established repeat client experiencing extenuating circumstances or signs of illness, we may allow your deposit to rollover if rescheduled under 48 hours. A good relationship with your artist goes a long way. However any appointments missed one day or less from your scheduled time will result in loss of deposit for any reason.

LATE POLICY: Clients who are 20+ minutes late may not be able to finish their appointment or complete it at all. In this case deposits will be forfeit and a reschedule is needed. If you have scheduled multiple tattoos and we are unable to complete any due to a late arrival, you will need a new deposit and appointment.

We really appreciate your understanding! No-Shows and late cancels are unfortunately extremely common in this industry and affect how we support ourselves. It's rare that a slot can be filled on short notice (under 48 hours) by another client even when we have a waiting list. You may not feel that a reschedule is significant, however its not uncommon for multiple clients a week to try and reschedule, directly impacting your artist with significant loss of income. Please respect our time and our livelihood!

What will you tattoo?

Every artist has their own unique style and subject matter that they enjoy tattooing. Petite Ink specializes in fine line pieces with light to minimal shading. Most tattoos are black, one color, or have only minimal accent color. We do not specialize in blackwork, geometric, or realism styles. If you want a custom design, your artist will discuss with you whether or not your tattoo is within their ability and interest to work on.

We will place tattoos on the arms, legs, hands, lower hips/back, buttocks, and shoulders. WE DO NOT TATTOO RIBS OR FEET AT THIS TIME.

What will you NOT tattoo?

We do not tattoo any faces, palms, fingers, necks, ribs, inside wrist (right under palm), sternum, stomach, breasts/areolas or genitalia. We will not tattoo any subject matter that is hateful, offensive, or obscene. Your artist has the right to refuse work if the subject matter or art does not align with their ethics or art style.

What is the cancellation policy?

Appointments can always be rescheduled up to 7 days in advance. You may only reschedule your appointment once - please do not abuse the 7 day rule. Multiple reschedules will require that you pay a new deposit and your original deposit will be forfeit. If you experience extenuating circumstances or signs of illness, we may allow your deposit to rollover if you are a regular client and reschedule just under this window - please be communicative.

Important:  Any appointments missed one day or less from your scheduled time will result in loss of deposit for any reasonWe really appreciate your understanding!

No-Shows and late cancels are unfortunately extremely common in this industry and affect how we support ourselves. It's
rare that a slot can be filled on short notice (under 48 hours) by another client even when we have a waiting list. You may not feel that a reschedule is significant, however its not uncommon for ten or more clients a week to try and reschedule, directly impacting your artist with the loss of income. Please respect our time and our livelihood!

Can I change my design?

Most tattoos do not require a design preview beforehand. We will be happy (and expect!) to accommodate any reasonable changes for custom tattoos at the beginning of your appointment.

Drawing custom designs can take hours and even days of our time. Your artist will be happy to make any reasonable and minor changes as long as it is within their abilities and in line with their style. Good communication is important and saves time! Please be as communicative as possible about what you want in your design, as your artist may not have the time for guess-work and make massive changes to the subject matter or composition of your design.

Where are you located?

Our location is inside URBAN WORKLOFTS at 918 S Horton St. Seattle, WA 98134. We are just a few minutes south of downtown! There is ample FREE covered parking and the building requires that you are buzzed in.

After you've placed your deposit and booked your appointment, information will be sent to you on how to prepare for your appointment and how to access the building. Don't worry, its easy to find!

How do I prepare for my new tattoo?

Arrive to your appointment excited - its tattoo day! It is extremely important that you do NOT have ANY aspirin, alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before your appointment! Really - not even one cup of coffee or any energy drinks. Anything that thins the blood makes tattooing extremely problematic. One cup of coffee is enough to cause a lot of extra bleeding and your tattoo may not be as crisp as you'd like or heal correctly.

Please do NOT apply numbing cream before your appointment! If you are concerned about discomfort please talk to your artist about options.

Arrive with your ID and a tablet/phone and headphones so that you can relax during your appointment. Excessive talking / laughing can (and probably will) cause you to move and shift too much and make your tattoo come out poorly. Relaxing also helps your artist focus!

Can I bring someone with me?

In short, no. We are doing our best to limit exposure and keep the studio extremely sanitary for everyone. Also, having someone join you can be very distracting to both you and your artist. Please feel free to relax when you are getting your tattoo. Podcasts, movies, headphones, books etc. are also welcome to help pass the time!

Our studio is an 18+ space and not appropriate (or safe!) for minors - please make arrangements ahead of time for any childcare. Thank you!

Do you require vaccinations?

We prefer to only see guests who are vaccinated at this time. If you are unable to receive vaccinations due to a medical issue, please let us know. Keep in mind that most medical conditions that preclude someone from receiving vaccinations can also preclude someone from receiving a tattoo. (Example: Pregnant or breastfeeding, chemotherapy, etc).

Please be as honest as possible so that we make the best decision for your health and safety!
